01 / About

I don't just ship products. I architect the conditions for them to succeed.

The hardest problems in hardware aren't the ones you solve — they're the ones you prevent. Over 15+ years across Meta, Google, Amazon, and Oculus, I've learned that the difference between programs that ship on time and programs that don't comes down to three things: the right engineering strategy set early, the right team structure to execute it, and the discipline to front-load risk before it becomes a schedule crisis.

I operate at the intersection of technical direction and organizational design — defining product architecture, structuring teams for velocity and accountability, and making the high-stakes tradeoffs between cost, schedule, quality, and industrial design that determine whether a product ships as envisioned or ships as a compromise.

At every company, I've built engineering organizations from scratch — standing up PD teams, establishing design review cadences, creating tolerance analysis standards, and codifying processes that outlast any single program. I've led both JDM/ODM and in-house detailed design models at scale, and I know when each is the right call. Native Mandarin fluency gives me a structural advantage in China-based manufacturing, enabling direct technical communication at the factory floor level.

I also actively integrate AI tools into hardware engineering workflows — from accelerating FEA interpretation and risk analysis to building custom tools that help entire teams make faster, higher-confidence decisions. The future of hardware leadership isn't just about what you know — it's about how fast your organization can learn and adapt.

Career History

Meta Reality Labs Staff Hardware Engineer
2023 — Present Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Oakley Vanguard Smart Glasses Systems
  • Setting engineering strategy for next-generation smart glasses ecosystem — defining architecture direction, technology bets, and build/buy/partner decisions that shape the multi-year product roadmap
  • Built a dedicated charging case organization from zero — designed team structure, established JDM operating model, and created the engineering processes now used across the full smart glasses product line
  • Leading 0-to-1 product development under compressed, DVT-first timelines — coordinating 7+ parallel workstreams and front-loading engineering rigor to eliminate failure modes before they become schedule hits
  • Rescued Oakley Vanguard charging case program from 3-month delay — restructured execution model and delivered on time via JDM partnership
  • Pioneering AI integration into hardware engineering workflows — built custom tools for FEA interpretation, risk analysis, cost optimization, and failure analysis that accelerate decision-making across the broader team
Google Tech Lead, Hardware Product Design
2020 — 2023 Pixel 7 Pro Pixel 9 Pro XL
  • Set engineering direction for Pixel smartphone hardware — led a team of 12 PD engineers, defining system architecture and making critical design tradeoffs from concept through mass production
  • Delivered Pixel 7 Pro from concept through mass production — full program ownership, owning the critical path and resolving high-stakes technical decisions at executive reviews
  • Drove Pixel 9 Pro XL through first engineering build (~90% design complete) before transitioning to Meta
  • Established team-wide engineering standards, design review cadences, and tolerance analysis processes that reduced late-stage design changes and improved build quality
  • Drove architectural development of next-generation devices, integrating advanced technologies in under-display sensors, foldable displays, and miniaturized camera systems
Meta Reality Labs (Oculus VR) Product Design Lead → Senior Product Design Engineer
2017 — 2020 Oculus Quest 1 Next-Gen AR Devices
  • Led 10+ Product Design Engineers to deliver the Oculus Quest — Meta's first standalone 6DOF VR headset and a category-defining product
  • Built the Oculus-Pegatron JDM operating model from the ground up — establishing the partnership framework still used today
  • Led architecture development of next-generation augmented reality devices, driving system-level design from concept through mass production
  • Pioneered PD processes adopted across all of Meta hardware: tolerance analysis standards, design review cadences, build reporting, and vendor RFQ frameworks
  • Named inventor on utility patents for IPD adjustment, speaker beam-steering, multi-layer housings, and HMD optics
Amazon Lab126 Technical Lead Manager, Hardware Product Design
2011 — 2016 Echo Dot (1st Gen) Amazon Echo (2nd Gen) Fire TV Cube
  • Led Kindle Fire HD10 (1st Gen) from concept to MP with 6-person PD team — first full program leadership role
  • Delivered Amazon Echo Dot (1st Gen), Echo (2nd Gen), and Fire TV Cube (1st Gen) as program lead
  • Owned detailed design of cameras, FPCs, PCBs, and plastic enclosures on Kindle HDX 8.9" (in-house design)
  • Promoted to Technical Lead Manager, managing 4 engineers directly by end of tenure
BlackBerry (Research In Motion) Mechanical Design Engineer
2008 — 2011 100+ Accessories Charging Docks Phone Cases
  • Designed and shipped 100+ accessories (charging docks, cases, cables, retail demo units) through JDM/ODM model
  • Conducted vendor audits and partner selection — built supply chain judgment that carried through entire career
  • Named inventor on 20+ design patents covering phone skins, shells, and accessories (D606528–D653250)
  • Filed charger device patent application (US 20120098491) — earliest IP generation, Year 1 of career
